The Charter states the purpose, limits, relationships, and versioning principles of ULCS. It is a scholarly and organizational declaration; the taxonomy remains the detailed canonical record.

Clause I

Declaration

Unified Living Computation Science (ULCS) is hereby proposed as a scientific megadiscipline and organizational framework concerned with the study, classification, and organization of computation as it arises, operates, and evolves within living, semi-living, synthetic, and hybrid systems.

ULCS recognizes computation not solely as an abstract mathematical process or an electronic implementation, but as a fundamental organizing principle of life, matter, energy, and adaptive systems.

Clause II

Purpose of the Discipline

The purpose of ULCS is to provide a coherent, unified scientific framework for understanding:

  • Computation as an intrinsic property of biological systems
  • Information execution within living matter
  • Hybrid biological–synthetic computational architectures
  • The physical constraints governing adaptive and evolving computation

ULCS is intended to coordinate, not replace, existing sciences by establishing a shared structural and conceptual foundation across biology, physics, computation, and engineered systems.

Clause III

Scope and Boundaries

ULCS is classificatory, organizational, and theoretical in nature.

It does not:

  • Assert inventorship over biological systems, physical laws, or technologies
  • Replace established disciplines such as biology, physics, chemistry, or computer science
  • Claim experimental discovery, clinical application, or technological readiness

Instead, ULCS defines how domains relate, how terminology is stabilized, and how future research may be coherently organized.

Clause IV

Canonical Structure

ULCS is composed of canonically defined domains, each addressing a distinct layer of living and hybrid computation.

These domains include, but are not limited to:

  • Life-based computational systems
  • Biological information execution frameworks
  • Bio-quantum and hybrid computational architectures
  • Organ-level and substrate-level computation
  • Physical principles governing adaptive computation

The authoritative definitions, boundaries, and internal organization of these domains are specified in the ULCS Detailed Canonical Index and Domain Framework.

Clause V

Relationship to Existing Sciences

ULCS is positioned as a unifying meta-framework that interfaces with:

  • Biology and life sciences
  • Physics and thermodynamics
  • Computer science and information theory
  • Systems engineering and hybrid architectures

ULCS does not subsume these fields, but provides a structured lens through which their intersections may be studied without contradiction or overreach.

Clause VI

Canonical Authority and Versioning

This Charter establishes the foundational organizational authority for ULCS terminology, documents, and canonical structures.

This authority applies only within the ULCS framework. It does not extend to established scientific disciplines, institutions, discoveries, standards, or technologies.

Canonical definitions, terminology, and domain structures are versioned, non-retroactive, and expanded only through explicitly numbered revisions.

Scholarly Disclaimer

This Charter is a scholarly and organizational document.

It does not assert institutional recognition, scientific consensus, ownership, priority, or exclusive rights over biological organisms or processes, physical laws or constants, or medical, technological, or engineering implementations.

Copyright protection is asserted solely for the original written expression, structure, and organization of the ULCS framework.

Unified Living Computation Science (ULCS) is proposed to support the long-term evolution of science, enabling future inquiry into life, computation, and adaptive systems within a stable, non-contradictory framework.

This Charter serves as the foundational declaration upon which all ULCS canonical documents, indices, and future expansions are built.
